From the website:
Hands Across the Sand is a movement made of people of all walks of life and crosses political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our coastal economies, oceans, marine wildlife, and fishing industry. Let us share our knowledge, energies and passion for protecting all of the above from the devastating effects of oil drilling.I will actually be on a beach on the East Coast on June 26th and will be standing hand in hand with others in solidarity with the statement that we want no more offshore drilling.
- Go to your beach on June 26 at 11 AM in your time zone.
- Form lines in the sand and at 12:00, join hands.
The image is powerful, the message is simple. NO to Offshore Oil Drilling, YES to Clean Energy.

Check out the map on the website to find a location near you. There are actions taking place along oceans, rivers, and lakes all around the world.
It doesn't escape my awareness that I will be standing on a beach on the Atlantic coast only because I flew in a plane that is most likely fueled by a product of offshore drilling. And I'm typing on a computer that is using electricity that is created by... well, I don't even know.
I hope you get a huge turnout- I'll be with you in spirit!
ReplyDeleteI see there are 2 such events in the UK - in Norfolk and St James' Park, London.
ReplyDeleteYou mean Mr CfP isn't pedalling furiously on a bicycle in the back garden and generating electricity for your computer? LOL
This is a wonderful idea, Carol! I'm so glad that you'll be on the Atlantic coastline on the 26th! If you participate in the event, would you take a pic of Alex and I with you? We'll be there in spirit!
ReplyDeleteThomas,
ReplyDeleteIt will be sweet however it turns out. And I know that you will be there! Thank you!
Dancing,
ReplyDeleteAre either of those close to you?
Mr. CfP is on strike!!! You just can't get good help these days. ;-)
You got it, Nick! I just printed a photo of you and Alex snuddling and it's comin' along with me!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. I'll be thinking of you oin the shoreline.
ReplyDeleteIf there is no rain and I'm feeling OK, I may drive down to the bank of the Ohio River (it's only about 3 miles away) and say a prayer. Our rivers are even more polluted than our oceans.
I will be far from any beach on the 26th, Carol. But I will stand hand in hand with you energetically.
ReplyDeleteSan,
ReplyDeleteEnergetic hands can reach very far. It will be good to have you there!
Carol: I think this is a very creative way to make a serious statement. Wish I was able to hit the coast - but Goodnight and I will hit a beach. If you need me you can call me on my shell phone!
ReplyDeleteso tempting. i will be at the beach in august though.
ReplyDeletemaybe i will do what nick is doing ...
go to the river ...
G.G.,
ReplyDelete:-) Good one!

ReplyDeleteWater is water. All life requires it and we are not being kind to it.
