My friend sent me this little card yesterday and it made me cry:
Tomorrow has already come. I am no longer the daughter. I am a partner in a journey.
What a privilege to be a caretaker of my sweet, sweet dad in these most intimate of times.
We assume you are a caregiver now for your dad. What an amazing path your on. Cherish every moment. You truly have a compassionate heart.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet card and perfect for what you are going through. It reminds me of the ending of this book:

A & N,
ReplyDeleteI am and you are right, this is an amazing path. I am allowing myself to just open up to it and it is giving back to me more than I anything that I can give to my dad.
Blowing my mind...
G.G.,
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this book, but I had a great time reading about it and going through some of the reviews. Thanks for pointing it out!
It's a great little card- I forwarded the image to friend who's helping her father cope with a grave illness.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful xx
ReplyDeleteCarol, I'm not sure if it was clear in the reviews you read, but there was a recurring phrase in the book that endeared everyone to it: "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as you're living, my baby you'll be." By the end of the book, the mother had grown old and was being taken care of by the sone who heard that phrase his whole life. He changed in for her: "I will love you forever, I'll like you always, ans as long as you live, my mother you'll be."
ReplyDeleteIt works for fathers, too.
Thomas,
ReplyDeleteI hope it is helpful for your friend!
Dancing,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it?
Been thinking of you...
G.G.,
ReplyDeleteYes, I did pick that phrase up. Totally sweet.
Last night, even in the bowels of hell, the words, "I love you, Daddy" kept coming from my mouth. It's impossible not to love him even when we are being tested at this level.
When I am able to function again, I will check out that book.
