Love Means...

As autumn approached, we spent a few days in Rocky Mountain National Park.  Dogs are not allowed to hike within a National Park, and since Buddha was no longer in our life, we were now free to hike many trails during our time there.

Real LOVE is when we can't stand to leave our best dog behind, so we don't hike a close national park for years and years - and we don't feel like we're missing out on anything, because having a best dog friend is way more valuable.

(I love all of the colors in the hills.)

Before Mr. Boodie left us, he was getting weak in his hind legs, so in order to give the guy some more traction, we bought rugs for areas of our home that have wood floors.  The rug in the bedroom is a plain, light color.  Buddha hairs showed on it like iron filings on a magnet, like the gray hairs popping up all over my head.

When Mr. CFP did the first post-Buddha vacuuming (which didn't take place until more than a week after Buddha died, because knowing that I'd never have Buddha hairs on my rug again, I forbade the cleaning of that rug), the first thought that came to my mind after entering the room was, "I love the look of a clean floor!"  But real LOVE allows for hairy rugs, because having a dog buddy who thinks we're a god is way more valuable than a clean rug.

Today at the nursing home where my dad lives, I got to give Todd (the resident dog) a morning neck massage.  We both loved it.  A lot.  Maybe sometime, a different four-legged best buddy will find its way to this home and this heart.  I don't need national parks and clean carpets anyway.

  1. what lovely scenary! but i so agree with you when it comes to walks with dog. go where the dog can go! it is so worth it. you know, just 4 months after my cat rosco passed away i found myself being owned again by 2 kittens. they are still with me. one of them has cancer though and will probably not see the new year. and then i do have a dog too. she walks with me. and i don't need clean carpets either.

  2. Oh, reading about your kitties and dog makes me feel the emptiness of this pet-less house! Our kitty died two years ago, leaving only Buddha. Now it's just me and Mr. CFP. This is the first time I've been pet-less in almost 21 years.

I would love to see a photo of your dog. (hint hint - blog material - even though you have probably already shown her and I missed it.) What is her name?

I'm sorry to hear about your sick kitty.

  4. Well, THAT'S a cute name! And I bet Mupsy isn't a big, mean-looking rottweiler or German shepherd. That just wouldn't fit. ;-)

  5. Puts things into persepctive, doesn't it. Clean carpets are overrated.

  6. G.G.,

Yeah, sometimes I think that clean carpets are a sign of a lack of fun. (But when things are TOO dirty, that's not so fun, either.)

  7. Beautiful picture! I think it is great that the nursing home has a resident dog, too. :) My parents bought a pop-up camper this summer and went on several 3 day trips - one of their big reasons was so they could take the dogs wherever they went. :)

  8. Thanks, Otowi!

Your parents have the right idea! They have much more freedom with a camper than if they tried to find dog-friendly places everywhere they wanted to go. We have stayed in a few dog-friendly cabins, etc., but it's work to find good ones.
