Living Here Now

Once again, Byron Katie has helped me to see how my thinking has taken me to an imagined future while things are actually fine this very moment.

Sometimes (almost always) I need to be hit over the head over and over in order for things to sink in.

Last night I read a blog post of Katie's where she helped a woman inquire into her thought processes about her worry over her brothers in Iran. (You can read it here.) Through that line of questioning, I realized that I have images of Ms. Kitty's future that are just that - only images. I don't know what will happen after this moment, but I do know that right now, Ms. Kitty is a happy, sweet, loving kitty. If I put myself into the future, I can't be present with the beauty of what is right now. With me projecting my fears of the future, Ms. Kitty and I miss the love we can share while we're here together.

Ms. Kitty Today

(I just heard Mr. Carol For Peace in the next room saying "Nice little kitty. Such a sweet girl.")

I think I'll go now and just feel the love in this house.

I hope you can feel the love wherever you are, too.

  1. I can feel the love overflowing from your home!

It's good to hear about Ms. Kitty. Give the darlin' my love and Alex's purrs.

I really needed to hear your message today, Carol. The what ifs had been filling my head the last several days, bringing on the fears and sadness that comes when one pictures the worst possible future.

I am now back into the beauty of present moment!

  2. Any plan to take her to the vet for a check-up?

I love you kitty and never even met her!

  4. Nick,

Nuthin' like taking my time to respond!

I'm glad the post was timely for you.

I think that, in general, "what ifs" rarely happen, but they happen a gazillion times in our heads. Thank God our thoughts don't all manifest. It would be a crazier world out there.

  5. Otowi,

Ms. Kitty is a sweetie, even with her age-induced bad breath and unkempt hair. I'm sure she would snuggle with you if you were here.

As far as the vet... Ms. Kitty's old. She's happy. I'm not willing to put her through trauma (which, for her, includes vet visits) unless there is something that can be done to improve quality of life that doesn't include surgeries or drugs with negative side-effects. We'll see as time goes along...
