Because I have a website over, around, and through my blog, thus giving it the name "CarolForPeace.com" instead of something like "CarolForPeace.blogger.com", I am at the mercy of more than Blogger.
The more complex we make our lives...
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction." - Albert Einstein
In some ways, it would be a relief to lose my old blog. History GONE. Just me, showing up today with little blogging baggage. Okay already... I'm looking for that genius and courage...
Truthfully, I no longer feel like the person who wrote much of the content on that old blog, anyway. Things have settled a lot inside me. Less urgency.
Still, countless hours were put into that piece of Carol history between 2005 and 2009.
It could be a record of historical significance for some future generation to find as a means of realizing that, contrary to the message indicated by an abundance of war-like artifacts, some of us did want peace during the 2000s.
Maybe not.
It could be a record of a bit of my life over a 4-year span that my grandkids might enjoy.
Except I don't have any grandkids and my crystal ball doesn't indicate any are anticipated.
I'm guessing that the geniuses who host my site will come up with a brilliant save here and all of my pondering will be for nothing. But it IS fascinating to look at the motivation behind wanting to hold onto a bunch of symbols on a screen. It feels like those symbols are a part of me - but I know that they could all be erased today and there would be no less of me.
Is there a way of printing it?
ReplyDeleteCan you import it into a new blogging platform as I did with mine when it seized up? I am sure Mr CfP would know these answers.
Mr. CFP knows how to back it up so that at least I have a copy, but that's about all he can do.
ReplyDeleteThis change is going to cause big problems, I guess. At the office they're creating a TASK FORCE for this because it's going to affect a gazillion clients.
There are ways to import my blog into Wordpress, but I don't know if I would be able to keep my url.
It'll all work out somehow...
Huh, I haven't heard about this - I wonder if it will affect mine as well. I think it would be sad to lose your blog, and mine - somehow it is a small piece of yourself, even if most of it is unimportant. It is like an archive or journal of where you were, in a sense.
ReplyDeleteOtowi,
ReplyDeleteI think that you would have gotten an email from blogger if it's going to affect you. It starts off saying "You are receiving this e-mail because one or more of your blogs at Blogger.com are set up to publish via FTP."
I'm pretty sure that you're okay since your url has "blogspot" in it. But then, what do I know...?
I agree that it would be sad to lose this blogging journal. I'd get over it, but it would be sad. Somehow, I once lost a batch of baby photos of mine. That has bugged me because the photos can't be replaced. Then again, 50 years from now, no one will care.
Aww! But at least you will have it backed up so you can look at it... I used to blog on 20six and then on Platform 27 and both blogs are gone now. I would love to read over some of my entries from when I started blogging. *sigh* ah well. :o)
ReplyDeleteWell, the questions I would have asked have already been asked and answered, so I'm going to wait and see what happens. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Daffy... I'm sorry that you lost all of that work and all of the memories that were in it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gram. I'm going to wait and see, too! It will all work out.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I've been struggling with a similar issue. Backing up lots of data since a computer holding business files, blog files, writing files, my art files, is on its death bed. Technology saves a lot of time and simplifies so many tasks, but it also adds another level of complication to our lives. All those passwords to remember. All of that troubleshooting.
ReplyDeleteI hope the powers that be are able to keep your old blog up. It's a beautiful spot in frenzied cyberspace, an oasis that someone will enjoy visiting. Maybe many "someones."
San,
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all of your back-ups. I hope that all works out for you. The data you're trying to preserve is much more important than my blog.
