Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse

Yesterday evening Mr. CFP drove me and the Buddha dog to the park for a little walk. I almost caused a heart attack and/or accident when I yelled out "Look at that!!!!" as I first viewed the full moon rising over the city.

In Colorado, the beginnings of the eclipse took place about 11:30 p.m.
I slept for about an hour and a half before getting up to watch.

We put a blanket on the sleeping garden bed and, lying on our backs, we witnessed the most astonishing show.

I couldn't help but think about how, even though we know it's not true, we on this planet live, not only individually, but collectively, as though we are the center of the universe, .

You and I are a part of one celestial body in a universe beyond imagination.

We are as beautiful as this rusty red moon, as sacred as every planet and star, and yet, we are barely a fleeting breath within the whole miracle of it all.

  1. Wow, great photos - you got stars! My camera would only take a picture of either a star or the moon but not stars or stars and moon. I took a nap before the eclipse, too. :)

  2. Wow! It was cloudy here in Ohio (not to mention 2 hours later....) so thanks, this is almost like being there. Except it would have been cool to be there with you guys.

  4. Thanks, Otowi.

Too bad cameras can't replicate what our eyes can see...

  5. Liz,

Bummer about the clouds. It would have been fun to have had you guys here. We have plenty of garden space for reclining in and watching the sky. :-)

through you i've gotten to see the eclipse.
i did get up at the right time last night, and bundled up. but alas, when i walked outside it was overcast and it was sleeting.
it's an amazing event. the last time i watched a full eclipse was when i was camping under the stars in montana.

  7. Thanks for posting your photos. They're great! Sadly, it ws much too cloudy here. I perched myself by the window just to see if I noticed any change in the amount of light in the night sky. I didn't . . . Glad you had a clear view.

  8. Foam,

Camping under the stars in Montana and watching a lunar eclipse. I can't think of a better experience than that!

  9. G.G.,

Those clouds... gee, don't they know when people are wantin' to see a lunar eclipse???

What's so neat is... even when we can't see the eclipse, or the kindness of people, or the entire milky way and universe, it's all still there working its magic!
