The skies were Colorado blue and the sun was nourishing yesterday as we said goodbye to my dad.
This man was my undoing. He played Taps. What is it about that song that says "goodbye" so profoundly?
My mom, receiving the flag and a moment of thanks
Dad served in a submarine in World War II. He was in the South Pacific. I can't imagine what it must be like to be in a tube underwater with torpedoes coming after me.
Me and my momma
I understand the undoing. Taps and then on bended knee, the handing over of the flag. But it is a well-deserved respect and I'm glad it was shown to your dad. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, G.G.
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Carol, for sharing the photos of your dad's funeral. May he be a rest in the loving arms of God.
ReplyDeleteTaps...I have officiated at least a dozen funerals where taps were blown. I have not become immune to the to tears those notes evoke.
Thank you for viewing the photos and for your good wishes, Nick.
ReplyDeleteIt seems there is something in Taps that reaches deep into our core.
A beautiful tribute to your dad. I am so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteI can no longer hear Taps without being immediately sent back in time and in tears... The same with Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes.
Much love and big hugs to you.
Amy
Thank you, Amy.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, and Amazing Grace. Another song that rocks one to the core.
I can understand how these songs have a poignant impact on you. Love and big hugs back to you.
